As a little girl I would go to Sierra College to watch the 49ers during training camp. My godfather was the groundskeeper there when I was a little girl. Who knew decades later, I would willingly enroll as a student and become hooked on taking photography classes.
I started taking classes at Sierra College during the Fall of 2022. I had intended only to take the business class but was required to take an elementary photography class as a prerequisite. I thought I knew so much about photography after taking classes for over a decade and being a yearbook adviser for 17 years.
Boy was I wrong! Sierra College was a huge upgrade from the other classes I had taken! I have consistently been taking classes ever since. I even gave up my summers off( I am a full time middle school 8th grade history teacher) for three years to learn more! I have LOVED attending Sierra College. I earned my Associates Degree in Photography during the Spring of 2025. But I keep signing up for more classes. I am taking a half unit photo journalism class this Fall with Professor Randy. (He is so knowledgeable and has a rad sense of humor) I plan to take the advanced Photoshop class at some point and then the two alternative Process classes taught by Professor Dan. Professor Dan says is you are not failing, you are not trying hard enough. I love how he tells us we are creating art. It is ok to make mistakes but focus on the process and the story you are trying to tell!
The professors are outstanding including Professor Randy, Professor Kirk(knows lighting like the back of his hand), Professor Dan, Professor Monroe(Just follow the light), Professor Olker(super generous with her time and knowledge) etc. I want to take every photography class Sierra College offers!
I have met so many super cool people during my years at Sierra College! If you ever want to pick my brain about classes, please contact me at [email protected]. Go Wolverines!
